Counseling Minor (emphasis in Addiction Treatment and Prevention)
Students interested in careers involving counseling or therapy are strongly encouraged to pursue a minor in counseling. The counseling minor will provide students with generalized training in addiction, treatment, and prevention.
Upon completion of the 18- credit minor and their bachelor’s degree (in psychology or other human services field), students may wish to apply to the Board of Examiners for Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselors to become a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor Intern. The 4,000-hour supervision requirement is reduced to 1,500 supervised hours for individuals who have completed 18 credits in addiction studies. After completing 1,500 hours at a community agency, students will have the pre-requisites needed to take the Certification Examination for Addiction Counselors for the State of Nevada.
