Allied Health Sciences BAS
Mission Statement
The Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) degree in Allied Health Sciences (AHS) provides a baccalaureate pathway for students who have earned select two-year Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degrees. Students complete an approved AAS degree and additional health sciences coursework; they then transfer to NSU for their senior year to earn the BAS-Allied Health Sciences. The coursework at NSU focuses on interpersonal and written communications, leadership, and the social and cultural contexts of health care.
Program Learning Outcomes
In addition to their healthcare AAS course work at another accredited institution, the NSU student completing the BAS degree will be able to:
- Integrate content knowledge of human anatomy and physiology through the lens of a future healthcare professional.
- Explain how to integrate leadership, management, and interpersonal communication skills into the workplace
- Identify sociocultural and psychological factors that affect the successful delivery of healthcare.
- Explain why employability skills such as communications, teamwork, critical thinking, problem solving, and other "soft skills" are vitally important in the workplace.
Admissions Requirement
The BAS-Allied Health Sciences major is open to students who completes an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree at a regionally accredited institution from the following fields:
- Diagnostic Medical Sonography,
- Health Information Technology,
- Ophthalmic Technology,
- Physical Therapist Assistant,
- Radiation Technology, or
- Surgical Technology.
Students may transfer in up to 90 credits. Courses are evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Students will complete 32-34 credits beyond the AAS in order to meet the requirements for the Certificate of Completion.
