Data Science B.A./B.S.
Mission Statement
Data Science majors will learn to capture, organize, analyze, and communicate information drawn from large data sets, producing knowledge that aids in problem-solving and evidence-based decision-making. Graduates of the program will be positioned to succeed in a variety of career paths as the need for their knowledge and skills will continue to expand in fields ranging from healthcare to business.
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the program, the students will be able to:
- Formulate and articulate insightful and well-defined research questions and demonstrate an ability to identify relevant data, variables, and methods.
- Demonstrate the capacity to tackle data quality issues, including data cleaning, and other data challenges, utilizing problem-solving skills and best practices for data pre-processing.
- Apply rigorous statistical and analytical techniques to investigate data-related inquiries in R, Python, and SQL.
- Interpret results of statistical models and effectively communicate the insights to diverse audiences, employing visualizations, dashboards, reports, and presentations.
- Work collaboratively through all stages of the data pipeline using field-standard project management and version control technologies.
