Program Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the program, the Special Education Candidates will be able to:
- Apply their understanding of human growth and development to create developmentally appropriate learning experiences from a culturally responsive lens that address individual strengths and needs of students with and without exceptionalities. (DEVELOPMENT: InTASC 1b, 1e, 2k; CEC 2.2)
- Augment the curriculum to address skills and strategies that students with and without disabilities need to access the core curriculum and function successfully within a variety of contexts. (CURRICULUM-InTASC 4a, 4f; CEC 3.2)
- Evaluate the learner and the environment using a variety of assessments in order to make effective data-based decisions for instruction and eligibility. (ASSESSMENT: InTASC 6c, 6g; CEC 4.1)
- Use knowledge of individual’s development, learning needs, and data to inform effective planning and instruction to meet rigorous academic and/or non-academic goals (i.e., SEL, behavior) for individuals with exceptionalities. (EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICES: InTASC 7b; 8b, 8e; CEC 5.1)
- Demonstrate skills necessary to communicate and collaborate with families and professionals across settings to assist in executing effective instruction, programs, and services that promote progress toward measurable outcomes for individuals with and without exceptionalities and their families. (COLLABORATION: InTASC 9c; 10b; CEC 7.2, 7.3)
- Engage in ongoing professional learning, including understanding learner’s rights and teacher responsibilities, by utilizing evidence to evaluate and adapt their practice to meet learner needs. (PROFESSIONAL LEARNING ETHICAL PRACTICE: InTASC 9j; CEC 1.1)
