School Psychology Education Specialist (Ed.S.)

Program Description

The Education Specialist (Ed.S.) graduate degree in School Psychology is a practitioner level degree for work opportunities within the school setting. The degree requires successful completion of 63 semester credit hours of courses including supervised experiences in a school setting. It meets the minimum requirements for a graduate to obtain licensure in the state of Nevada and prepares them for the national examination to obtain the designation as a Nationally Certified School Psychologist. The Ed.S. is designed to meet all criteria outlined by the National Association of School Psychologists as one that can apply for the designation of a Certified NASP Approved Program. 

Mission

The mission of the Ed.S. School Psychology program is to prepare graduates to provide comprehensive psychoeducational services across diverse education settings that align with the standards and ethical practices of the National Association of School Psychologists.

Goal

Our goal is to provide training and field experiences that align with the 10 Practice Domains established by the National Association of School Psychologists. These 10 NASP Practice Domains include:

  3. Academic Interventions and Instructional Supports
  4. Mental and Behavioral Health Services and Interventions
  5. School-wide Practices to Promote Learning
  6. Services to Promote Safe and Supportive Schools

  8. Equitable Practices for Diverse Student Populations
  9. Research and Evidence-based Practice
  10. Legal, Ethical, and Professional Practice

 

Requirements to Apply for the Program

Applicants must:

  1. Provide a thoughtful written personal statement, including responses to all of the following topics:
    • What is your goal after earning this degree?
    • What is your personal motivation for earning this degree?
    • Describe a challenging situation you found yourself in and how you resolved it.
    • Briefly discuss your educational and/or professional journey. If relevant, include experiences, skills, and/or engagement related to school psychology, education, or special education.
    • Identify a strength and a weakness that relates to you as a student.
  2. Share contact information for three (3) individuals who can provide letters of recommendation
  3.  Have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0
  4. Have obtained a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution 
  5. Provide copies of undergraduate (and graduate, if applicable) transcripts
