Visual Media B.A.S.

Mission Statement

The Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Visual Media is a unique program in Nevada, designed to allow students with an existing AAS in Videography to build on their existing production skills and earn a baccalaureate degree. The program contains classes in film/media theory, advanced production, and senior-level capstone projects. It also allows students to complement their film and media production skills with classes in communications and business.

  1. Completion of an AAS degree in Photography with a Video and Film Emphasis

Learning Outcomes

A student who successfully completes the BAS in Visual Media can:

    1. Apply a knowledge of the historical development of visual media to analyses of cinematic texts and to the production of historically informed visual narratives; 

    2. Apply critical frames and theoretical models to analyses of cinematic and texts and to the production of socially conscious and theoretically grounded visual narratives; 

    3. Demonstrate skilled use of equipment and technology in the production of visual narratives;

    4 Demonstrate creative development practices resulting in complex, engaging, and innovative visual narratives;

    5. Apply visual media knowledge and production skills in professional preparation and/or community or industry engagement. 

Curriculum

Recommended Schedule

A recommended course sequence for Visual Media B.A.S. is provided for students as guidance to complete their major in four years.

Completion of an AAS Degree in Photography with a Videography and Film Emphasis (at least 60 credits) prior to entering the program
