Previous College Or University Work
Students who are transferring baccalaureate level coursework from regionally accredited institutions of higher education may be granted credit for work completed that is equivalent to courses offered at Nevada State University, or that can fulfill core curriculum and/or major requirements, or as general electives. The amount of credits awarded is based upon the following:
- Regionally Accredited Institutions: Credits accepted in transfer must have been earned at an institution accredited by one of the regional accrediting associations listed below and recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or, the US Department of Education, or both. Alternatively, credits may be accepted if earned at an institution that is a candidate for regional accreditation or, sponsored by a regionally accredited institution.
- Regionally Accrediting Organizations:
- Middle States Commission on Higher Education
- New England Commission of Higher Education
- The Higher Learning Commission

- Western Associate of Schools and Colleges (WASC), Senior College and University Commission
- Nationally Accredited Institutions: Credits from nationally accredited institutions are generally not accepted for transfer at Nevada State University. However, credits earned from specialized institutions offering associate, bachelor, or advanced degrees that are accredited, candidates for accreditation, or are sponsored by institutions that are accredited by one the following national accrediting associations listed below and recognized by both the Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and the US Department of Education will be evaluated on an individual, course-by-course basis if requested by the student by means of petition.

Applicants who have completed coursework at a non-U.S. or a non-English speaking college or university are required to have their documents evaluated and translated, if appropriate, by a National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) member. This official evaluation and translation, in addition to official copies of the documents in sealed envelopes, must be submitted to the university in order to be considered for admission. Visit Admissions & Recruitment or www.naes.org.
- Duplicate credit or excess is not counted towards completion of a Nevada State University degree.
- The award of transfer credits at the point of admission is not a guarantee that all transferable coursework will be applicable to every degree program. However, coursework that is deemed transferrable at the point of admission will, at minimum, be eligible for general elective credit.
