EDU 280 Valuing Cultural Diversity
EDU 280 Valuing Cultural Diversity is designed to introduce pre-service teachers to fundamental concepts of multicultural education and culturally responsive classroom practices. Emphasis is placed upon equipping students with research-based best practices for addressing equity, access, restorative justice, and other critical tools needed to support the sociocultural, linguistic and academic growth of diverse learners in a variety of educational contexts. Students will examine the intersection of race, class, gender, religion, sexual orientation, exceptionality and other identities that students bring into the classroom. A service-learning experience demonstrating the application of all course materials and topics in early childhood-grade 12 settings or with community-based organizations is required.
