ECE 262 Early Language and Literacy Development
This course explores the literacy development of children, with a specific focus on ages -birth through age eight. Emphasis is placed upon receptive and expressive language development and the use of language to communicate ideas, thoughts, and feelings. Children's language ability affects learning and development in all content areas. Teacher candidates will explore pedagogical strategies designed to support emergent literacy and to scaffold children's home language. Application of evidence-based assessment approaches as well as major theoretical and conceptual frameworks for supporting language and literacy development in young children are also covered. This course includes 20 hours of field experience.
Pre-requisite(s): Admission to the Teacher Preparation Program, ECE 250 or ECE 251
