Academic Recognition

This policy (AE 3.1) established the criteria by which undergraduate students are recognized and awarded for their excellent academic performance at Nevada State University.

Definitions

Cumulative Grade Point Average: The Grade Point Average as calculated for all higher education institutions attended.

Latin Honors: Level of distinction with which an academic degree may be earned.

Dean's List

To be placed on the Dean’s list, students must meet the following requirements:

  1. Be a degree-seeking student at NSU:
  2. Complete twelve (12) or more letter-graded (A-F) credits in an academic semester (not counting any remedial credits);
  3. Earn a semester grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher.

A notation  is added to eligible students’ academic transcripts indicating their status as a member of the Dean’s list. The lists are generated at the end of each semester after final grades posting and repeat course processing and are not recalculated based on grade changes or the removal of Incomplete grades.

President's List

To be placed on the President's List, students must meet the following requirements:

  1. Be a degree-seeking student at NSU;
  2. Complete twelve (12) or more letter graded (A-F) credits in an academic semester (not counting any remedial credits);
  3. Earn a semester grade point average (GPA) of 4.0.

A notation added to eligible students’ academic transcripts indicating their status as a member of the President’s list. Students who are placed on the President’s List receive a commendation from the President of the University. The list is generated at the end of each semester after final grades posting and repeat course processing and is not recalculated based on grade changes or the removal of Incomplete grades.

Latin Honors

Students are eligible to receive Latin Honors at the time of graduation if:

  1. At least half of the required degree credits are letter graded (A-F);
  2. The student completed a minimum of thirty (30) upper-division credits at Nevada State University;
  3. The student's Cumulative GPA, as calculated by the Office of the Registrar, is 3.5 or higher.

Graduation honors are designated as follows:

  • Cum Laude: GPA of 3.50 to 3.69
  • Magna Cum Laude: GPA of 3.70 to 3.89
  • Summa Cum Laude: GPA of 3.90 to 4.00
