BIOL 340 Urban Agriculture

Students will explore current trends in production of edible crops for local consumption in urban environments. Plant anatomy and physiology will be discussed in the context of soil and water composition and chemistry, as well as emphasizing the role of beneficial microorganisms found in the rooting zone. Plants will be grown using both soil-based and water-based (hydroponic) systems, which will involve laboratory and field experiences. Pre-requisite(s): BIOL 196 and BIOL 197 or Instructor Appoval. Course fee of $50.
