EDSP 471 Introduction to Early Childhood Special Education
This course is a comprehensive introduction to educational policies, programs, practices, and services for young children with developmental delays and disabilities in early intervention-early childhood special education (EI-ECSE). Topics addressed include an overview of laws and legislation specific to the education of young children with disabilities. Discussion of early developmental milestones including physical, cognitive, social/emotional, the impact of early intervention on later school success, and the importance of the family involvement is also explored. This course examines evidence-based instructional approaches and intervention strategies for young children with special needs. Theoretical and philosophical foundations including developmentally appropriate practices and cultural responsiveness will be also covered.
