CHEM 474 Biochemistry I

Fundamentals of biochemistry with emphasis on the molecular/chemical composition and the structure-function relationships of three biological materials involved in living cell: nucleic acids, proteins, and lipids. Important concepts include: nucleic acid processes, hemoglobin, bioenergetics, enzyme kinetics, catalysis and regulation, membrane channels and signal transduction pathways. Pre-requisite(s): BIOL 300, CHEM 241 (with a C- or better) or CHEM 242.
